VA460 – Kennington – Veterinary Surgeon

Welcome to cracking Kennington! This practice has well and truly taken off thanks to its experienced senior vet and support team, resulting in the need for a permanent additional second vet to come on board! Its high surgical case load would be ideal for a first opinion GP vet looking for more surgical caseload. This role offers a great rota with alternate Mondays and Fridays off, 1 day per week totalling 10 hours, and the other 3 weekdays are 8 hours. The weekend rotation is 1:4 branch Saturdays, and 1:10 hospital Sundays, plus up to 2 bank holidays per year. There are NO on-call requirements. As well as a fantastic team including a senior vet, RVN's, incredible trainee nurses and integral reception support, you will also be fully supported by a dedicated regional manager, and incredibly experience regional head vet. Kennington is equipped with everything you would need, including ultrasound facilities, ideal for a vet with a keen interest in diagnostic imaging. Due to the layout of the practice being over 2 floors, confidence in independent working is integral. You will also have the addition of support from Stone Lion 24-hour Hospital in Wimbledon, for more complex cases and OOH care for your patients. Kennington is a fast-paced clinic, that would suit a vet who is no stranger to a busy environment, and able to competently manage any emergency cases as well as a large GP caseload. Before we delve into the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you: The salary band for this position depending on prior experience is £45,000 to £65,000 (full-time equivalent). There are short periods of crossover with the senior vet, so you will need to be comfortable with working sole charge. Your rota will involve: Mondays 9am-7pm (sole charge) Tuesdays 12pm-7pm, Fridays 12pm-7pm plus a 1:3 branch Saturday rotation, 1:8 Sundays and 1 bank holiday at Wanstead hospital. If you were looking for full-time hours, we can accommodate this with a 4-day week with every Thursday off. The average 36.75 hours per week is inclusive of a 1:4 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation. You will also be rota 'd to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Wanstead. Our largest 24-hour hospital in the group is looking for a Senior RVN who thrives and excels in the ECC environment, and who has a particular bias for surgical nursing, specifically orthopaedic. The theatre will be your domain, providing pivotal nursing support to your vets, including orthopaedic surgery, supporting junior colleagues when in theatre, and ensuring the surgical equipment is maintained appropriately. Your rota will also include an average of 1:4 weekends with TOIL and up to 3 bank holidays per year. This role would suit an experienced RVN who is already a dab hand in the theatre, and now wants to progress into a senior theatre only based role. If you already hold a surgical nursing certificate, amazing! If not, the hospital is keen to help develop their colleagues’ skills further. There is fantastic diagnostic support at Wanstead, with a new CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery all available on site. You will be working alongside a large team consisting of approximately 24 vets, 27 RVNs, 14 SVNs, 7 VCAs and a large front of house team who are integral in maintaining excellent client care. We don’t expect people to cover huge areas, and you will work closely with our locum coordinator teams to work out which clinics are accessible to you. Although a float position, you will be fully supported by our experienced regional managers, and newly appointed regional head vet's, for any clinical support you many need. The role allows you to experience different environments from RCVS accredited hospitals with an array of specialists to multi vet and small sole charge clinics. Being a float role, you will work closely with your locum coordinator having shifts assigned that best support the clinics with their rota gaps. This role involves Saturday and Sunday shifts through-out the year that are not on a set rotation, so you can manage your weekend shifts around your personal life, while again meeting the needs of the clinics. Sundays and bank holidays would be worked at your nearest 24-hour hospital. So why join the team instead of locuming?
